I recently decided to purchase a new printer and found out about a Lexmark Z645 in the ads which isvery affordable and which I think is the cheapest printer i could find in any ads ($28-for a complete Lexmark inkjet printer).
My original target printer is a canon but the cheapest canon I could find was a pixma IP1980 canon at $43. But the Lexmark Z645 is more affordable....
I said wow Lexmark is a US product this must be a promo or something. I rushed to the nearest store and immediately got one.
The nightmare started when I got home and installed it in my vista system. The store didnt even ask what OS I have. It turned out later that the driver CD that came with each pack is a driver CD only for XP--this I found out when i tried to install it on my system with a Vista OS. I did almost evey troubleshooting--searched the web for answers--and later found out that the CD I got is for XP. I went straight to the Lexmark website for the vista driver. There was a vista driver but it never worked. I did almost everything and visited evey forums and blogs about the product and found no answers. Im not a moron for computers as I work as a tech support agent for a big computer company based in the US.
Good thing the store where I purchased the product (NG Khai in SM City) was very reasonable and returned my money. I had to return the product and ask for the refund so I can move on.
I decided to go ahead shop for canon printers.
By the way the Lexmark printer turned out to be a wrong deal since it came with only a black ink and I have to purchase a colored ink at $33. The total cost to get started with the Lexmark is $61 and this is not even a photo printer, just the basic inkjet.
To my surprise, the cheapest canon which was a pixma IP1980 originally tagged at $43 dollars already came with both the color and the black ink cartridges. Now this is the deal im looking for. The canon ip1980 came with a free pack for glossy photo papers and it installs anywhere in just 1 click. Now this is a deal
Lesson: dont get fooled by ads, find it out yourself, ask plenty of questions before purchasing any product with a flashy ad....
